"I'm a Vampire, the oddball who sits quietly at parties. You rarely speak, but when I do, its usually so crazy that I probably shouldn't have said it at all." discover your ALcoHoLiC personality!
Okay, so Libby sent me this quiz--she's a depth charge! Lol.
Apparently a Vampire is 1 oz of Vodka, 1 oz of Chambord Raspberry Liqueur, 1 oz Rose's of Lime Juice, and 1 oz of Cranberry Juice. Sounds interesting. . .

Now you all need some background on Rachel. Rachel is a freshman who moved in to Miller this year. She's a happy and friendly girl. She and her roommate Shannon are buddy buddy from day one. This, as I'm sure you know, often happens with freshman, and especially in Miller. The old girls all know each other and you want so badly to know someone. So you cling. They were one word, not two people.
So when Meg continued with the story I was shocked. She said Rachel wanted to move out of her room immediately. She was staying at her brother's house, and would move to Oliver if she couldn't get in a different room. Oliver, you must understand, is the skankiest dorm on campus. Eric can tell you about it. Some girl got raped there earlier this year. So Rachel was serious.
I asked if Shannon was in the hospital, because I'd heard a rumor. Meg said she was, but couldn't tell us why, just that she'd probably be back on Tuesday. Libby asked what this situation was, why Rachel wanted to move out. Meg first said she was glad we were shocked, because that meant rumors hadn't been flying. But she then said she couldn't tell us anything about the situation other than Rachel wanted out and Meg first thought of us as a possibility. Meg then left us to talk about it, and said she's be back in a half an hour.
Vale and Libby then explained to me that if Vale moved down with Barbara now, they would have the three person room to themselves next semester. Shannon is going on a Disney internship, so she'd be moving out anyway, and Meg said they just wouldn't move a new person in, to encourage Vale to make the switch. You have to understand, room space is coveted in Miller.
This whole time poor Eric was out waiting for me in the car, not knowing what was going on. We had plans to go to Keegan's for Monday Night Football. I waited for a hour for Meg to come back, and she didn't, so I went to Keegan's, a little worried and a little unnerved. I didn't know why all of a sudden Rachel would want come into my room and leave her closest friend without any explaination.

Mwhaha. For the continuation. . .
Dead sure I was in trouble. In fact, Libby had twenty empty or partially empty cans of Miller Lite under her desk. These were from the three boys from Newton, Iowa that came to visit Valeria. One was her cousin, and the other two were his friends. Libby got some drunken international student action that weekend, I might add. But yes, twenty or so cans of Miller Lite. . . and I had a few empty bottles of Sunshine under my desk. That's the name of the beer--from New Belgium Brewing Company in Ft. Collins, Colorado. But I digress.
My panic led to a horific expression on my face, which caused them all to laugh at me. Although it lightened the mood, it was still an uneasy laugh. Meg told me to sit down.
Meg said a situation had arose, and she was wondering if Valeria could move in with Barbara now, and if Rachel could move in to our room.

So, for the promised story.
Where do I begin?
Okay, so my roommate Libby and I are going to study aborad next semester, so my third roommate, Valeria, had begun to stake out who she wanted to live with after we left Miller. She had asked Barbara, and Barbara agreed. She would have to move all her stuff in here before Christmas break. Everything's fine and dandy.
This past Monday, I came running up in to my room. Not expecting it at all, I find my hall director sitting on my futon, talking seriously with my roommates. She says, "Ah, you've arrived right on time Lenny. We need to talk."
I was dead sure I was in trouble, because Meg is usually jovial and not at all serious.

Oh and I really think I'm going to quit society and join a commune. What is it with everyone leaving their computers on all night so they can have their away message up?!?! Did no one learn anything about energy conservation? Do you know where your energy comes from? What an utter waste.
I'm certainly not claiming perfection, and not that I haven't done it in the past, but think about it. How much energy do we use, on a daily basis? Driving, computers, hairdryers, microwaves. And for what? For convience.
I'm beginning to have a hard time eating food that's not from Douglas county--thinking about the trucks' exhaust and the run off from the asphalt roads and habitat fragmentation by highways, all for me to eat the foods I like. I don't know if it's worth it.
Our lifestyles are structured so that almost everything we do will eventually harm the environment. I've been thinking about all of this all semester, waiting to come to some sort of conclusion about democracy and science and economics and ecological responsibility. And all I can go back to is my commune.
So I think I'm going to buy an island. I'm thinking somewhere where there's already been human damage and impact. We'll grow our own, locally-found food and fiber to make our own clothes, and we'll entertain ourselves--with games, plays, singing, drugs, orgies, whatever. And we'll have children running around. There will be problems, of course. We'll be happy and sad and healthy and sick and we'll all die eventually.
I'm never really going to change the world on the level that I want. Universal harmony or justice or even respect aren't going to come about, no matter what I do. All I can do is change me. So if you'd like to come live on my island, talk to me and we'll see what we can do. Or it might just be me, sitting alone, with an island in my mind.

Okay, this may seem childish, but I am going to rant in reply to my friend Krista's rant. A link to her page is on my sidebar.
Okay so Krista complains that the National Merit Test has statewide standards. My first point is that National Merit is a private corporation. They can set up whatever rules they desire.
Secondly, I think the state designation is reasonable NOT because I benefited from the system, but because the quality of education varies from state to state. I know this not from staistics, but from living in different states and having friends around the country. So instead of having an individualized state test, you can control for the factor of the diversity through state percentages. I mean, everyone could take the TAAS test, of course. . .
And furthermore, each school is individualized in its standardize testing approaches. Never in Iowa did anyone offer help, but in Texas my English teacher spent multiple lessons teaching us about the different types of analogies that we would find on the SAT.
There are so many problems with the test and its outcomes that it doesn't really matter anyway. What about the inherent unfairness of standardized testing? Anyone who has taken any psychology can tell you that. So, in effect, the PSAT awards the top two percent, by state, of students who excell in standardized testing. Give me a break.
I'm trying to contain myself from going on a rant about the education system as a whole. But it doesn't matter. I leave it up to Eric and Daniel to change education one kid at a time, because I know they can.

wow it's been a bush week. Lots of projects, tests, briefs, etc. I'm sure you all are thrilled to hear about it.
Most exictingly, our last football game is tomorrow! Saturday, whatever. Woo-hoo!! Yeah! Good times. Talk about a disappointing season. Not that I really expected that much, but still. Eh. Our show is a the leadership written show--a "video game" theme. We're doing the MOST OBNOXIOUS rendition of the Mario Brother's Themes (not that Josh isn't a great arranger). Then the Crimson Grils will dance to "Mortal Kombat" *AHH!!!* and we'll close with Pinball Wizard from Tommy. As much as I like that song (and my album is MISSING!! GRR!!) it's really not like a rock masterpiece or anything. Pete said he wrote it at the last minute and threw it in as a joke. Haha.
Oh yes, Bryan is still in a coma. And now his mom won't let Morgan see him. As if life wasn't difficult enough.
I personally am getting excited about Europe. I bought my tickets on Tuesday. I can't believe I'm really going. I want people to give me money for stamps and their addresses on sticky labels and pens for Christmas so I can send you all postcards!! I know it seems silly but if I have to send 100 postcards, that adds up pretty fast. . . and that's if I only send one :-) Luckily Iraq is agreeing to comply with weapons inspectors. I really don't want to die.
On that note, is anyone particularily knowlegdable about airplane saftey? I'm trying to convince Libby that we'll survive the flight. I'm been on so many planes that it doesn't even phase me anymore.
Oh yeah, and I went with Eric to see Bill Cosby on Sunday. He was great! It was my anniversary present to Eric, and I think he was a little too tired to appreciate it.
Speaking of tired, I'm pretty gone myself. So I'm going to turn in early. And I think my roommates would appreciate it if I showered. . . ;-)

please, I'd like to ask everyone for their thoughts and prayers. One of my high school friends, Bryan, (who's also my good high school friend, Morgan's, boyfriend) was in serious accident last night. Luckily his seat belt and air bag saved him, but his head still hit the windshield. He is in critical condition--nonresponsive with very little brain activity. Bryan has a bounce back personality so everyone is still hoping.
The other driver ran though a stop sign and Bryan hit her head on.
E-mail me if you want Morgan's cell number or e-mail address.
How about this to make my problems seem trivial . . .

why am I so moody? I don't try to be. I feel like I am. Maybe it's because I'm still sick. Bleh.
I can't even find music to pick me up. That's not a good sign. HELP!
I have these two pig projects for Environmental studies, plus a brief for Sup Ct and a paper for pols theory. And the piccolo party is tonight! What should I do? Plus that whole being sick thing. Damn damn damn. That and we have rehearsal at 8:30. I'm such a party pooper. That's okay, at least I'll have my grades?
Yeah I got a 92/96 on my religion test. I feel much much better. Now I need to see if I can pick up my Pols midterm from BEFORE fall break. . . hmm, I could go run do that now I suppose. There's a thought.
Well alright then. More later.

Love the auburn hair! You seem to have excellent music taste, are artsy, and are smart and funny. Living such a balanced life must get kind of tiring, but you do it well. You seem the least fake of all the others, tho I've never seen anyone with truly natural auburn hair, so you must've dyed it, which in turn makes your hair fake, and that messes me up! Thanks a bunch.
What color hair should YOU have?

ahh. check it out. made my day.
what else was I going to say. . . yes, Eric took me to Ghengis Khan in KC--aka the best Mongolian bbq--for dinner tonight. Talk about knowing how to make me happy. And our server was dressed up for Halloween, as Kid Rock?! It was pretty funny.
and it snowed. It was beautiful and didn't last long. Mala called me a bitch for skipping out on winter, and I told her I think I just have good planning skills. Italy, warm wet winter, no drinking age -- things like that don't happen by chance. . .
so I have more news. well I always have more news but this is on the 'low down' as jenny and chrissy would say. Haha. Anyway, if you want to know, e-mail me.
okay, bed time for sick Madeleine. Happy Halloween to all, and to all a goodnight!
