Well it's great to feel like everyone's missed me. Hmph. No, really, I'm not hurt. Steph did write me an e-mail. Do you really want to know about my Christmas?
Well, I really enjoy being home. And I got lots of nice, pratical things--a wheely bag thing, luggage locks, money, travel books, new hair brush, a new tool kit (which rolls up nicely), candy, makeup, oh wait, okay those last two aren't the most pratical. Oh, and I got a gift certificate from Bath and Body Works from my godparents. Weirdness. I bought shampoo. How boring is that? Anyway, I ate lots of good food and worked a lot. Christmas seems more magical when you're a child--because you don't have to shop, wrap, cook, clean, etc. Not that I don't enjoy it all. . .
On Christmas Day we drove to Springfield to see my family. At least it was the family I like. Aunt Rita and Uncle Bob and Collin and Ethan came from Colorado. Aunt Jo and Uncle Bill and Amy and her bf Bill and her son Forrest, Billy and his wife Erin and her mother. And of course Grandma and Aunt Marlene and Kim and Matthew. Always a bunch. But it was fun--we got to see wedding pics of Billy and Erin, and Grandma showed me her pictures of Russia (she went this fall). We opened presents, ate lots of good food and played games. Good times.
Then the day after Christmas we got up very early and went sledding. It was great and cold and icy and snowing! In some ways I'll miss Iowa. Then Kim and I went to the mall (very very bad decision) to spend our gift certificates and see if there were any good sales. I hope I never go out the day after Christmas. It made me ill. Anyway, after that we went to Matthew's basketball game, which he lost 48-13 or something painful like that. Then what? Hmm . . . oh yeah, all the kids went swimming at the hotel (mom and dad and nick and ryan stayed at a hotel this year, and Zak and I stayed at aunt Marlene's. usually we all stay there, but this worked out really well) and I took a bath!! ALONE!!! Without anyone banging on the door. So that was nice and relaxing. Then Ryan woke up from his afternoon nap and we watched Oprah together. It wasn't my choice; but Ryan screamed when I tried to change the channel. Something about Oprah I guess.
Then what, umm, we ate at the only Hardee's that still serves fried chicken!!! LIKE ALL HARDEE'S SHOULD!!! not that I ate the fried chicken but that is completely beside the point. Yes, and we went back to Marlene's and. . . oh yeah, played Bunko. If you've ever heard of the game before, this is different. It is Bunko a la Keldermans. Anyway, it means you wrap up little junk and whatnot and disguise it. Somewhere you also wrap a $5. This time we did five ones, which worked better I think. Anyway, you wrap up all this stuff, and then you roll the dice, passing them around the circle. It used to be double 6s, but now any doubles, and you get to pick a present off the table. But you can't open it. Then you go around and around until all the presents are off the table. So, for example, Nick had 5 and Dad had 2. But then the timer is set for 10 minutes, and everyone keeps rolling. This time if you get doubles, you can take a present from whomever you want. It's funny knowing what is under the wrapping and what people are fighting for when they have no idea what is inside. Then after the time is up, everyone opens their stuff and can trade from there if they wish. For example, I got a horrific glittery handpainted porcelin cross with two little children praying beneath it. I traded it to Mom for 50 cents. I traded Nick the little instamatic camera for I can't remember what. Cuticle clippers maybe? The weirdest things show up in this game. Ryan, however, got a little finger puppet beaver. And Grandma got a box of chocolates. So it's not all bad :-)
Yes, and then Friday we went ice skating. Even Ryan got some skates on and was dragged around the rink once. He REALLY wanted to go on, but he's too small. And once he was on, with people supporting him on both sides, he started screaming "scared, scared!" So once was enough. Then Mom and I went to Grandma's and made lunch and later dinner--we had the 31st Keldermans over for dinner. These are not my favorite bunch, but we had a good time. My cousin Katie is getting married in April--she's very excited. But I have to miss the wedding. I have to think of a good present to get her in Rome to make up for it. At the end of the night, we played. . . oh no now I can't remember the name of it. It's the game where you have to get your team to guess a certain word at the top of your card, but you can't use any of the words on the list below your word. It's like getting you team to say "Regis Philbin" (or however you spell it) but you can't say Kathie Lee, Millionaire, "Live with. . . ", etc. Yes! I remember. It's Taboo. Yes, well that is usually a fun game, but when you play with kids of the age range 15-11, it's a little wild. And for the record we played girls against boys and the girls won. After everyone cleared out, Kim, Zak, Matthew, Aunt Marlene and I all snacked and watched a movie. And Kim showed me how to make necklaces. She does beautiful beadwork.
Anyway, I slept from 2 until 7 so I'm rather tired. Forgive my rambling. Today I chased after Ryan, cleaned Aunt Marlene's house and packed the car. And rode home. But I'm glad to be home.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I will talk to you all after I get a good long sleep.

"Your score kinda sucks to be honest. We aren't ashamed of you, but good luck finding a militant feminist to hang out with because we've got this thing about people like you. There's hope, it's just looking far away right now." "I'm not really militant. I could be cool if I tried, but I usually don't try."

Okay, Steph sent me this survey a long time ago, and I copied Eric's clever idea of posting it on my blog. It's not the best, but just for you Steph :-)
------------
1. If you were going to get a tattoo, what would it be and where would you
put it? (If you already have one, share with us where it is and what it is
I would get a peace sign on the inside of my right ankle.
2. What CD or tape do you currently own that you wish you had never
acquired?
Besides the free Lynyrd Skynyrd "Live from Steeltown" which was free, I can't say I've bought a disappointing cd (well, come on, I buy the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, I mean really). . . I've been given some pretty awful burned ones :-)
3. What, in your opinion, would be the most embarassing place to be caught
naked?
Caught? I spelt that word wrong in second grade and I'll never forget how mean my teacher was about it. Umm, probably anywhere with my guy friends. That would be the least cool. Most anyone else I can deal with.
4. If you were invited to a dinner party, what would you bring?
Like a bring something dinner party? I'm a big fan of the cheese and crackers. Or artichoke dip. also cheesy. Yum. Or fruit and yogurt dip.
5. What's the one thing about your job/school that irritates you the most?
repetitiveness. and lazy professors.
6. If you were going to star in any movie, which one would it be? (This can
be a movie that already exists ... or one that you make up.)
I would be Penny Lane in Almost Famous. Come on, everyone should know this.
7. What's the biggest conflict between the genders?
How we're socialized into our concepts of 'gender.'
8. What doctor do you like seeing the least?
I haven't ever been to many doctors, but I don't like the ent because by then you're already sick.
9. When you want to feel sexy, what do you wear?
Something very confortable and something that fits well. Then I can feel good and feel like I look good.
10. What language would you like to master?
Begali. Or Hindi. Or Punjabi. Some Indian language. or Russian. Russia fascinates me.
11. What, in your opinion, is the ideal yearly income?
$30,000. I mean, think about how much of the world is in poverty. I can live off that. Maybe not with 6 kids. . .
12. It's a cold, rainy Sunday afternoon. What movie would you like to watch
when you curl up on the couch?
Oooh. How's about . . Pride and Prejudiced. Sense and Sensibility. Steel Magnolias. Or Gone with the Wind. Anne of Green Gables. Help. Other, more exciting movies for Saturday night. But Sunday afternoons, I have to go with these.
13. What would you estimate your IQ to be?
No clue. 110? I'm not that smart.
14. What sport should be a part of the Olympics?
Beats me. Marching Band!! ;-) just kidding. . .

Soil agronomist. Well probably not, but that's an old joke.
16. Why don't some people like you?
Because I'm mean. Well, not mean, but eeeevil. My friends tell me I'm evil. Wait a second. . .
17. What is the biggest turn-off for you?
Hmm. How about not cuddling? Generally, making fun of people.
18. What is the last book you've read?
For pain or pleasure? Pain-- Globalism by Steger. Pleasure-- Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky
19. If you could be invisible, where would you go?
Ooh, maybe the White House? Or the Vatican. Probably the White House though. It'd creep me out to spy on the Vatican.
20. If you had a 1-900 number, what would the subject be?
Hmm. . . like let me tell you how to get your life in shape without astrology, debt-consoliation and spending lots of money.
21. If you were a policeman, what type of criminal would you have put behind
bars first?
I would have everyone put in help, because normal, healthy people shouldn't have reasons to commit crime. People who disrespect human life need some help--human rights violators, murderers, W.
22. What's your favorite candy?
I really really like Ferro Rocher. Or Milky Way Midnight (Bite Size).
-----------
Kinda anti-climatic, huh?

Hello one and all! I should, really really should be working. But I'll take a short break to de-stress.
I spent politics this afternoon writing some preliminary plans for Europe. We'll see how Libby likes them.
Oh okay the Rachel/Shannon story!! So After I leave for football, Rachel comes in and Libby asks her the situation. I mean, it's a little much to have a new person come in without knowing why. Rachel says that lately, she and Shannon have been growing apart. Rachel has her boyfriend, and is meeting new people. So Shannon begins saying less than complimentary things about Rachel's mom. Mark (Rachel's bf) came over looking for Rach, and Shannon told him, in a non-joking manner, Rachel was with lots of boys. She was at a study group. Then the weekend before the room switch, Shannon came into the sleeping porch and woke Rachel up at 3 AM. Shannon said she missed Rachel. Rachel decided that she needed to tell Shannon that all of this had been bothering her. Rachel basically told Shannon (from what I understand) that she didn't apprecitate Shannon's strange behavior and that she needed time and space.
More background: Rachel had a good friend in HS who was on Accutane and committed suicide. Shannon knew about this and how much it had hurt Rachel. Earlies in the semester, Shannon admitted she had seriously considered suicide in the past, but that she was more stable now. The night she woke up Rachel, Shannon took a lot of pills. She was in the hospital for three days. She told Meg (hall director) that she could only tell Rachel why she was in the hospital. In a conference with the dept of Student Housing, Rachel's mom told this story and asked if Shannon had given the same story. The DSH ppl said it was confidential. Rachel's mom asked if it was the same story, basically. They said no. She asked if it was in any way similar. They again said no.
So of course Rachel moved in. And it's been okay. . . except when she knocked on the door last night and really scarred me. And lots of little things, but that's roommate life I think. Just thought I'd finish that story up, now that everyone's lost interest ;-)
How is me? Well, being a slacker during the part of the year when I need to be pulling stuff together. I'm trying to work, really I am. I just have so many other things that eat up my time. So instead of babbling about it. . .I'll get back to work.
Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well and had a splendid Thanksgiving.
